Archiving Feminist Pornography at the Sexual Representation Collection
Call for Donations at the Feminist Porn Conference 2014
Did you know that the Sexual Representation Collection at the University of Toronto houses one of North America’s largest collections of feminist pornography? Would you, like Annie Sprinkle, Carey Gray and others, like to be part of it? Thanks to the generosity of Carlyle Jansen and Tristan Taormino we are the official institutional home of the Feminist Porn Awards and Feminist Porn Conference and will be accepting donations at this year’s Feminist Porn Conference.
We would be happy to take and preserve some of your items related to feminist pornography, especially archivally‐ and historically‐significant materials, such as film scripts, production documents or contracts, video and photography, posters, advertisements, even personal items such as diaries or brainstorming notes. All of these can help researchers, students, film‐makers and others contextualize the production and politics surrounding feminist pornography. For example, we are producing a major exhibit this year for the Scotiabank Contact Photography Festival and World Pride in which we will be featuring feminist pornography prominently for an expected 45,000 attendees!
Our collection is especially interested in materials related to the circulation and production of interventionist sexual representations. We feature materials on censorship, media production, and sex activism of various forms. You can find out more about the collection at the Feminist Porn Conference, and if you already know that you are interested in donating materials, please contact Nick Matte, the curator of the Sexual Representation (nicholas.matte(at)utoronto.ca), to discuss the details and logistics of doing so, along with any concerns or questions you may have.
