Mark S. Bonham Centre for Sexual Diversity Studies
University of Toronto
The Sexual Diversity Studies program affords students the chance to develop an interdisciplinary focus on how sexuality is understood and represented in cultural, political, legal, social, and religious contexts. Why are sexual identities labeled as gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered, queer, or heterosexual, normal or perverse? How do identities and sexualities come to mean something different in different times and places? SDS core courses are taught by instructors from a variety of disciplinary backgrounds. Students also get to choose from a wide array of courses taught by faculty members across more than twenty disciplines and programs.

Sliquid Natural Intimate Lubricants
Sliquid began as a personal lubricant company, created by CEO Dean Elliott. As they say, necessity is the mother of all invention, and Dean’s wife was one of the many women out there with sensitivities to glycerin and other questionable ingredients commonly used in lubricants. So Sliquid was formulated, first as an idea, then as a reality. Formulated by sensitive women, for sensible women became a sort of mantra for Sliquid, and the company vowed to always put the safety and comfort of their customers first, regardless of cost, and to never use sugars or petrochemicals. Today, the company boasts a product line of over 60 items, all formulated female friendly. So what is it about Sliquid that is so different from the other personal lubricants out there? The answer is fairly simple, though many people are not aware. Sliquid is formulated entirely sugar and sugar derivative free (glycerin), and with sparse amounts of only the safest preservatives, making it the cleanest, most natural lubricant on the market.
Feminist Porn Archive and Research Project at York University
The Feminist Porn Archive was created by a small group of researchers here at York University, and funded in part by a grant from the Faculty of Arts, and is designed to generate and document the production of feminist porn. Over the years, we have discovered that there are few places to send our students to do research on the existence of feminist porn (conventional libraries do not collect these materials). There’s a great deal of material being produced by feminist, queer and transsexual/transgender artists, film-makers, sex radicals and so forth but there are few places where these materials are being housed, documented, and/or made available for research. You can find a great deal of material online but such sources may not be either academic nor historical and might not help answer questions like: What kinds of porn were feminists making in the 1970s or 1960s? or What does ‘feminist porn’ mean in the first place? We operate by donation; we are looking to gather materials (magazines, drawings, film, video, posters, etc.) and invite donations. Visit our site for details on how who we are, on how to donate material to the archive, or to find out more about feminist porn.

The Feminist Press
The Feminist Press is an independent nonprofit literary publisher that promotes freedom of expression and social justice. We publish exciting authors who share an activist spirit and a belief in choice and equality. Founded in 1970, we began by rescuing “lost” works by writers such as Zora Neale Hurston and Charlotte Perkins Gilman, and established our publishing program with books by American writers of diverse racial and class backgrounds. Since then we have also been bringing works from around the world to North American readers. We seek out innovative, often surprising books that tell a different story. The press is the publisher of a diverse collection of books, including and Tango: My Childhood, Backwards and in High Heels by Justin Vivian Bond, Zipper Mouth by Laurie Weeks, Two Whole Cakes by Lesley Kinzel, Pussy Riot: A Punk Prayer for Freedom, and The Feminist Porn Book: The Politics of Producing Pleasure edited by Tristan Taormino, Celine Parrenas Shimizu, Constance Penley, and Mireille Miller Young.
The 2014 Good For Her Feminist Porn Awards
Now the longest running celebration of erotica focused on women and marginalized people, The Feminist Porn Awards have been celebrating feminist smut for eight sexy years. At Good For Her, we are feminists and we sell and rent porn. In 2006 we decided that it’s not enough to criticize adult films for not adequately representing women’s–and in many cases, men’s–sexuality. So we decided to do something about it. We believe the world is inundated with cheesy, cliche, degrading, and patronizing porn. But we also believe that erotic fantasy is powerful, and that women and marginalized communities deserve to put their dreams and desires on film, too. As feminists and sex-positive people, we want to showcase and honour those who are creating erotic media with a feminist sensibility.
Good for Her is Toronto’s cozy, comfortable place where women and their admirers can find a variety of high quality sex toys, books, DVDs, workshops, sensual art, and much more. Good For Her wants porn to be held to a higher standard. We all deserve to see artistic expressions that celebrate who we are in all our glory, and artists deserve to have their work recognized. For these reasons, and many more, we are honoured to be the presenter and founders of the Annual Good For Her Feminist Porn Awards.
